Article: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO SHAVING YOUR FACE

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO SHAVING YOUR FACE

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO SHAVING YOUR FACE

Women shaving their faces is no longer a taboo anymore, so get out your razors ladies! In the past year we have seen so many at home treatments performed by content creators all over on Tik-Tok and Instagram, that really there are no limitations when it comes to what you can achieve with different skin techniques! Let us talk you through all the details about dermaplaning and give you the ultimate guide to shaving your face!

First things first let’s debunk all the myths out there. There are two types of facial hair women have; vellus and terminal hair. Vellus hair or “peach fuzz” is almost invisible/translucent hair located along the whole face. It can be visible in the bright sunlight, and for the most part it’s almost invisible. Terminal hair is a bit darker and thicker and it is often located on sideburns or upper lips.

The biggest misconception is that if you shave your facial hair it will grow back coarser or even thicker. However, this is 100% not true! Your hair will grow back exactly the same as it was before, as you will not be changing the hair follicle.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO SHAVE YOUR FACE

There are things you should definitely consider before you decide to do the dermaplaning. What are your reasons? Are you looking for smoother skin and better product application? Quick solution to remove your facial hair? Exfoliation and glowing skin? Then… dermaplaning is perfect for you!

There are also alternatives to removing your facial hair such as wax, threading, plucking, or depilatory creams. However, these all come with different side effects which really makes dermaplaning/face shaving the easiest and the safest method. Also, if you’re looking for a more permanent solution for hair removal you should definitely consider a laser, with which you’ll actually need to shave your face before the appointment.

PREPARING FOR THE FIRST SHAVE

What will you actually need if you decide to shave your face? Not much to be frank, no shaving foam or aftershave are necessary! You’ll just need dermaplaning razors and a good hydrating product to use afterwards.

Our Take It Off dermaplaning kit is a perfect place to start as it comes with two dermaplaning razors in 2 sizes suitable for the bigger and smaller areas on your face. It also comes with 100% Squalane oil which is extremely nourishing and hydrating and it will replenish the moisture in your skin after you shave it.

WHY WOULD YOU SHAVE YOUR FACE?

For some of us peach fuzz is just not cool anymore, and some of us might struggle with facial hair which we just simply want to remove! And obviously, there are added benefits to face shaving, which really make us pick up the razors without thinking too much about it :) By dermaplaning you’ll also exfoliate the top layer of dead skin cells which will make your complexion brighter. Additional to the glow, your makeup will apply seamlessly and all of your skincare products will penetrate deeper into your skin.

The rumours are that Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor shaved their face regularly to maintain smooth complexion as well. So actually, why would you NOT shave your face?

Dermaplaning how to why you should shave your face tips

STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO SHAVING YOUR FACE

  1. Start by thoroughly washing your face, removing all the makeup and impurities.
  2. Dry your face completely for the best results, or apply a little bit of squalane oil in case your face is ultra sensitive.
  3. Place the dermaplaning razor in a 45 degree angle. If using our Take It Off kit use the smaller razor for your eyebrows and chin, and the bigger razor for the rest of your face.
  4. Hold your skin taut and use small featherlight strokes to take off the hair in the downwards direction of your face.
  5. Repeat the small strokes across all areas of your face you’d like to shave.
  6. After you finish, wipe your face with a towel or a cotton pad.
  7. In order to replenish your skin moisture apply a hydrating skin product. We’d highly recommend our Squalane oil that comes in our kit as it has extremely hydrating and nourishing properties which will help the skin to keep its moisture.
  8. Make sure you wear sunscreen daily ( which you should be doing anyways ) and enjoy the glowing hairless complexion!

HOW TO MAINTAIN SHAVING YOUR FACE

If you’d like to maintain that glowy smooth shaved complexion repeat the dermaplaning every 3-4 weeks. The process is really quick and it’s easy to work it into your skincare routine. However, if you find that you’d like to remove your facial hair more permanently - laser hair removal might be the right choice for you.

If you are dermaplaning your face regularly, Forever Dermaplaning Razor is also more sustainable, and more cost efficient as the only thing you'd need to buy after the first time are the blades. STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO A SPA-GRADE DERMAPLANING FACIAL AT HOME

  1. Start by washing your face, make sure you remove all the makeup and impurities.
  2. Dry your face completely for the best results, or if your skin is sensitive apply an Aloe Dermaplaning Shave Serum for an easy glide.
  3. Place the dermaplaning razor in a 45 degree angle. If using our Forever Dermaplaning Razor use the white razor blade for your eyebrows and chin, and the black razor for the areas on your face which might need extra exfoliation such as your cheeks and sideburns.
Use Skin Nectar Serum to boost hydration and radiance or Collagen Fix Serum if you'd like to plump and moisturise your skin. If your skin is ultra dry, replenish your complexion by sealing all the hydration in with Afterglow+ Dermaplaning Facial Oil.
  8. Make sure you wear sunscreen daily ( which you should be doing anyways ) and enjoy the glowing hairless complexion!

SHAVING YOUR FACE BEFORE THE LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Many people do not know this but 24 hours prior laser hair removal you’ll actually need to shave your face. The shaving is necessary so that the laser can locate the hair follicles easily without damaging your skin.

Shaving your face/ dermaplaning can be highly beneficial to you and your skin. Even though it might seem scary at first, do not get discouraged by the false misconceptions out there. Pick one of our Take It Off starter kits and reveal your bright shaven complexion :)
