THE BEST FACE OILS FOR DERMAPLANING

While hearing about all the benefits of dermaplaning, there are often misconceptions on the correct way to do it, which face oils are best to use when shaving your face and what products to use before and after. Facial oils are some of the best skincare products to use both with dermaplaning or afterwards as these are emollients which have multiple benefits for your skin. The best face oils to use are ones that are natural, simple and non-comedogenic. If you'd like to move over aloe vera gel, say hello to natural face oils!

WHAT IS DERMAPLANING WITHOUT FACE OIL?

Should you dermaplane on wet or dry skin? You might have seen people practising different ways of dermaplaning; on wet skin or dry skin. Can you dermaplane with oil/using an oil?

DERMAPLANING is an exfoliating facial which can gently remove the top layer of dead skin cells and fine Vellus hair otherwise known as peach fuzz with a single blade dermaplaning razor in order to reveal brighter, smoother and hairless complexion. Dermaplaning has been a very popular spa/medical facial treatment, however recently dermaplaning has gained a huge interest as people are more and more intrigued by at home dermaplaning. It is a great alternative to chemical peels, or exfoliating facials/scrubs and removes facial hair as well as making makeup apply much more seamlessly.

A dermaplaning facial is typically done on dry skin, which is meant to be held taut, with making featherlight movements with the razor.

WHAT IS OILPLANING?

OILPLANING on the other hand, is essentially dermaplaning with the use of a facial oil beforehand for an easier glide, gentler exfoliation and facial hair removal. Oilplaning is perfect for more mature/dry or especially sensitive skin types which may be irritated by dermaplaning on dry skin. Oilplaning works on the similar basis as dermaplaning, you’ll still experience the exfoliation benefits while removing facial hair, it just means that before the process you’d apply a light amount of facial oil all over the face. The oil can help preventing sensitising the face or overdrying the complexion and provides a natural lubricant for an easier glide.

Oilplaning is often more likely performed by first timers dermaplaning at home, rather than shaving dry skin, which often seems scary to the first time users.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN FACE OIL FOR DERMAPLANING

In order to pick the right product for dermaplaning or oilplaning, you should look for a certain number of qualities that will be beneficial to your skin and that won’t cause any irritation or discomfort.

1. Pick a natural face oil

You should make sure that your oil is naturally derived and has very simple ingredients. The more natural percentage that your chosen face oil contains, the better and gentler for your skin when oilplaning.

2. Go for non-fragranced oils

As dermaplaning can irritate your skin balance, make sure the oil is not heavily fragranced with essential oils which could cause discomfort to your skin. Fragrances and essential oils can irritate your skin and cause redness, which you definitely want to avoid post dermaplaning. Go for unfragranced face oils, or pick an oil that doesn't smell too overpowering to prevent any unwanted skin reactions when dermaplaning.

3. Your face oil needs to be non-comedogenic

It’s crucial that your facial oil for or after dermaplaning is non-comedogenic, meaning that it will not clog your pores and cause breakouts. Non-comedogenic facial oil can be used on all skin types. Even if you are prone to breakouts and acne you will be able to use the face oil that has non-comedogenic properties when oilplaning.

4. Nourishing and hydrating face oils are the best for oilplaning and dermaplaning

And lastly, the face oil should have nourishing and hydrating properties so that it can bring your skin back to its balance and it should help strengthen your skincare barrier after dermaplaning. Dermaplaning can dry out your skin as every single exfoliating treatment does and therefore you need to make sure that your skin gets all the hydration it needs afterwards.

5. Choose a face oil that has some extra skincare benefits

Picking the perfect face oil for dermaplaning or oilplaning can be overwhelming as there are so many different face oils out there! Pick the one face oil that sounds like it will suit your skin the most! If your skin is sensitive, shop for a face oil with extra calming benefits. In case you feel like your skin is looking dull, pick an oil with antioxidants. In need of extra nourishment? Face oils rich in omegas will help bring back the nourishment back to your skin! Always look at your skin type and for what your skin might need when picking the right face oil for dermaplaning. Sometimes, it might be beneficial to use a facial oil blend or a serum that's been blended with natural face oils in order to get the most out of your skincare.

ONE OF THE BEST FACE OILS FOR DERMAPLANING/OILPLANING

One of the perfect face oils for dermaplaning or oilplaning is a100% plant-based (often olive derived) Squalane oil!

So, what is actually squalane you might ask? Squalane is an amazing ingredient that has moisturizing, antioxidant and nourishing properties. It’s mainly derived from plant-based ingredients such as olives, rice bran or sugar cane and it’s often included inside the beauty products due to its emollient characteristics.

100% plant-based squalane oil is the best and purest way of getting the full benefits of squalane inside of one product! It has nourishing, hydrating and antioxidant benefits and on top of that it’s non-comedogenic, and non-fragranced so therefore it can be used on all skin types without worrying about breakouts or irritation. Additionally, it’s been clinically proven that squalane oil naturally helps the cell renewal process within your skin.

HOW TO USE SQUALANE FACE OIL WITH OR AFTER DERMAPLANING

The squalane oil is an extraordinary one ingredient product to use with dermaplaning by itself. This face oil is the most optimal product to use after the treatment in order to replenish the skin. Squalane oil has been the absolute best choice as it has a power to penetrate deep into the layers of skin and nourish the skin back to its natural balance. Even if your skin might become sensitive after dermaplaning, the oil helps to calm it down and re-hydrate it afterwards.

If your skin is ultra sensitive, or you might be afraid of dermaplaning on dry skin you can even use squalane oil while dermaplaning for an easier glide. This would be the oilplaning itself. A little amount of face oil really goes a long way and it’s very beneficial using the oil before or after shaving!

OTHER FACIAL OILS YOU SHOULD USE FOR DERMAPLANING AND OILPLANING

In case you’d like to experiment with your facial oils, there are some others that would work really well if you decide to use them with or after shaving your face. These could be either facial oil blends or blended into face serums to help you get all the skincare benefits that these are packed with!

Once again, make sure that your facial oil won’t clog your pores especially if your skin type is combination or breakout-prone.

ROSEHIP OIL

Rosehip face oil is especially effective if you’re acne prone as it’s high in omega 6 fatty acids which are proven to help with acne. Additionally, rosehip oil is known for being high in antioxidants and also for its anti-ageing benefits and therefore it makes a beautiful choice for oilplaning. It's also an extraordinary product or ingredient to include in your post dermaplaning routine as it can improve elasticity in addition to nourishing your skin. You can also use products that contain Rosehip Oil as an ingredient such as Skin Nectar Radiance Facial Serum ! If you'd like to use rosehip for its anti-ageing properties, you might indulge in Collagen Fix Miracle Facial Serum  which has been blended with rosehip oil to nourish the skin post dermaplaning while also boosting collagen production.

APRICOT KERNEL OIL

One of the best facial oils to use for either dermaplaning or oilplaning is Apricot Kernel Oil. Apricot kernel oil is a lightweight, non-comedogenic oil that is easily absorbed, making it an ideal choice for dermaplaning as it helps to lubricate the skin, allowing the dermaplaning tool to glide smoothly while preventing irritation. Rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins A and E, apricot kernel oil also nourishes and moisturizes the skin, leaving it hydrated and refreshed after the dermaplaning process. Afterglow+ Dermaplaning Facial Oil is rich in Apricot Kernel Oil which helps to deeply moisturise and soften the skin during and after dermaplaning facial. It's the ultimate luxurious treat for the skin that needs that extra bit of glow and nourishment!

HEMP SEED OIL

Hemp seed oil is one of the least comedogenic facial oils known while being extremely beneficial for dry or irritated skin. It can prevent flakiness or itchiness which people with dry skin might experience after dermaplaning. Hemp seed oil can help you restore your skin barrier and retain moisture.

AVOCADO OIL

Another extraordinary natural face oil which you can incorporate into your dermaplaning or oilplaning routine is Avocado Oil. Avocado oil is rich in antioxidants, such as vitamin E and C, which nourish and protect the skin, promoting a youthful complexion and combating free radical damage. Its deep moisturizing properties and ability to boost collagen production make avocado oil an excellent choice for hydrating and rejuvenating the skin, leaving it soft, supple, and visibly revitalized. Once again, you can search for products that contain Avocado Oil as an ingredient.  Skin Nectar Radiance Facial Serum contains Avocado Oil amongst some other great ingredients in order to replenish the skin post dermaplaning by deeply moisturising it. For more mature skin types, Collagen Fix Miracle Facial Serum might be a great option post dermaplaning as it contains the deeply hydrating Avocado Oil as well some other age-defying ingredients.

JOJOBA OIL

Jojoba oil is often used in medicine as it’s a lovely product to use for psoriasis, eczema or even sunburns. It contains a natural form of vitamin E which can help fight oxidative stress. Once again, this oil is non comedogenic and hypoallergenic and it will speed up the repair of your skin barrier after skin shaving.

MARULA OIL

Marula oil, known for its lightweight texture and high antioxidant content, is an excellent choice for dermaplaning as it provides a smooth glide during the procedure while delivering essential nutrients to the skin. With its hydrating and anti-inflammatory properties, marula oil helps soothe the skin post-dermaplaning, promoting a refreshed and radiant complexion. Afterglow+ Dermaplaning Facial Oil is packed with Marula Oil which helps to nourish and revitalise the skin post and during dermaplaning helping to strengthen your skin barrier in the process.
